about

INFO:

The “Vizion”- Story kicked off in 2017 when Cali P listened to a Migos Remix built by TEKA.
“This riddim, which later became “Life Lesson”, sounded exactly what I wanted my music
to sound like. You hear that warm-sounding Roots riddim blending up with the fresh
sounds from the UK & the USA. So, I contacted TEKA, who always contributed to my
previous albums. He told me that he had some more Riddims in that style.” These
experimental riddims made the Guadeloupe rooted and Switzerland-based singer gassed
up for a session at TEKA's Studio in Berlin. It clicked from the time Cali P entered the
studio, as TEKA recalls “I played some riddims for Cali, and he immediately started to
write and didn't stop.” And he added, “When Cali writes lyrics, he has a great intuition for
the metric of his sentences, which leads to great melodies that stuck in your head.” And
so, within their first 48 hours, Cali P & TEKA recorded 8 songs.

One situation for Cali P, which showed the level of creativity for the “Vizion” was the
recording of “Girlfriend”. “While we recorded this song, my girlfriend called me and at
one-point TEKA told me, to put her on the speaker so she could be part of the song. I
explained to her what she should say, and while TEKA put her voice in the song I was
chilling in the recording both, listening to the song, and I was clapping on a wooden
bar chair. At some point the song stopped, and TEKA told me he just recorded my
clapping on that chair and fixed it into the song as well. This spontaneity and love for
the music by TEKA made these sessions special to me.”
And these exceptional moments didn't stop there for Cali P, TEKA, and the team of
LowLow Records, everybody put a lot of effort into everything connected to this project.
The pictures, the videos, when putting out which song, everything should highlight
that “X”-Element both artist's characters represent. The first sign of Cali P X TEKA ́s
“Vizion” was the powerful track “Baddest” in 2018, which brought a lot of attention to
the project. This Caribbean, UK & USA infused track was the musical blueprint for
what fans around the world could expect from this collab. One embodiment of the so
called “X”-Element is the colorful and distinctive music video for “People Want More”,
which was premiered in December 2019 by the world-famous High Times Magazine.
A situation that TEKA also thinks back to is the recording of “Rise up & Shine” which
was released in spring 2020. “It was the last day of the first session with Cali. In the
morning before he came to the studio, I built the instrumental for that song. And
because it was the last day, we were in the rush with the recording. We managed to
finish the chorus and literally in the last second possible Cali finished recording the
second harmonies for it and had to run for his taxi to the airport. We didn't even
manage to say goodbye, but we had something unique, and we are happy that we've
got Stonebwoy & Seun Kuti for the verses.”
Twelve of the thirteen tracks of “Vizion” were recorded in two five-day sessions at
TEKA ́s LowLow studio in Berlin, except for Cali P's 2020 statement against systematic
racism, “Hit Like Gunshot”. This song was recorded in the Gambia, where Cali P was
residing for 5 months due to the Corona travel restrictions. But this was not the only
obstacle Cali P & TEKA had to overcome within the past 12 months. One thing TEKA
had to overcome was the sound of the unreleased tracks “I was constantly working on
the mixing and arranging of the songs.” said TEKA, “but now I am happy, and it feels
right to release the “Vizion.” And as a result, the “Vizion” project with its 13 songs, 8
music videos and 2 EP's tells the story of Cali P & TEKA which is based on trust,
tactfulness and the way to a new horizon.
